Eat Learn Frolic (E.L.F.) open in 2015 and was located over at the Grand Traverse Commons. They had an indoor play area and offered coffee, lunch and snacks. After closing for a few months near the end of 2016 to remodel, they reopened at the beginning of the year. They aspired to be a safe and fun place supportive of all moms and kids. They aspired to give us good coffee. They aspired to offer a space that inspired creativity and conversation.
Shockingly, E.L.F. announced in June that they were closing for good. Although I lived close and I love supporting local businesses, I have to admit that it did feel a little crazy each time we visited. All businesses go through transformation and I don’t know how the day-to-day operations were managed, but I’m sad to see it go. There was a lot of potential with the types of activities they offered. Maybe we will see it open up again in the future? Here is a link to the Facebook page for E.L.F. in case there are future updates.
Ellen and Melissa, thank you for bringing your aspirations to life. It took a lot of tremendously hard work and although it ended in the way you originally created it for now, you inspired a mom who brought her two-year-old and then newborn. You inspired childhood memories every time I walked to the bathroom – seriously, the bathroom was adorable. I wish you and your families the best as I know this is a sad time to have to say goodbye to this dream for now. I really hope it is just for now. Maybe when your kids are older and there are fewer demands? Being a working mom is hard. I know when and if you are ready to reopen or re-imagine in any capacity, there are many moms, dads and families who would love to stand behind you and help.
