Over the past few years, I have spent countless hours on Pinterest pinning DIY home decor and furniture ideas, unique ways to organize toys and closets, and everything in between. The result? Creating over 50 different boards and 3500 pins – you can check it out here if you are brave. Many of these are ideas to customize our home and they are finally being put to use since my husband has started building my crazy furniture, sign and organizing ideas. I encourage him to buy tools because he makes cool things that help keep the sanity around the house.
Well, his latest passion has been cutting things using his CNC machine, which he purchased in late spring. It took a while to wrap my mind around what he can build, but now the possibilities are endless (checkout the album below)! Last weekend he mentioned wanting to stop at Rare Earth Hardwoods because they are liquidating their inventory as they change their business model. They are staying true to only making products out of wood that is dying, dead or down, often from Brazil.
My hubby has purchased wood from there before and it is extremely beautiful, but also really pricey. I figured we would look around for 20 minutes and he would spent $100 on two or three nice pieces of wood. We ended up spending $69 and purchasing all the wood for a few projects that have been on my list for him to build, including a custom shelving unit for the living room to finally contain ALL THE TOYS and games and books that only a one-year-old can scatter around the house. I lost track of how long we were there, with our kids needing to stretch their legs as our time limit.
I love the idea of cute furniture and baskets and coordinating containers to contain the toys and craft stuff and numerous other things, but I cannot bring myself to spend all the money this would require. We have a lot of space, which is a huge blessing, but it also means that furniture and decorations have to be on the bigger side to look right. So, flinging open your doors and telling me I can have cool looking floor samples and other pieces of wood for $2 each is going to mean I look like a crazy person with projects floating around my mind as I choose pieces. I’m no Joanna Gaines, but I see the potential and love the opportunity to add character to our home.
Oh, you want to pretend to be Joanna Gaines too?
Rare Earth Hardwoods is liquidating their stock of wood with prices of at least 30% off and increasing through August 17th. Then, they are having an enormous auction to clear out the rest on Saturday, August 18th. Find out more on their Facebook page and website.
