I didn’t jump right away and buy Veggie Fries as there are new products on the market all the time – especially gluten-free products. Doesn’t it seem as though every company is jumping in the gluten free game? Honestly? Some of them are just weird! Oleson’s – a local grocery store – has clearance carts throughout the store and it’s common to score new gluten-free grub. I pick up the questionable boxes even though they are on clearance and clearly no one is buying them. I get to buy a gluten-free product for the price of a normal box of cereal, granola bar and brownie mix. Sure, I may end up tricking my kids into eating them in a smoothie since I detest throwing away food. I also get to experience the excitement of trying something new.
Part of what makes following a gluten-free lifestyle easier is buying and cooking the same foods. You know where they are in the store, when they are on sale and how to prepare them in the midst of flying around with the kids. But, I long to try new products to see if I can switch up the weekly menu.
Gluten Free Section – A Shopper’s Dream
One day, I was flying through Oleson’s to pick up a few things for dinner. I happened to notice a brand new gluten-free freezer section and my heart skipped a little as I noticed an ENTIRE section with permanent signage screaming GLUTEN FREE. Yes, please! I took a few minutes to look it over and I learned something new. I’m still delighted to learn new things after two-and-a-half years of eating gluten free. I didn’t realize the brand Alexa offered gluten-free products. I confirmed this with my friend Google and looked closer.
Then it jumped out to me. A coupon for $1 off when you buy Veggie Fries AND a mail-in rebate. I looked closer to see if this free product was worth it (I mean, who likes to make something and get excited about it just to eat cardboard?). I chose the Carrots and Potatoes Veggie Fries and headed to the check out line forming my plan for actually sending in the rebate.
Not only did I make the Veggie Fries that night, I also filled out the rebate form, added a personal note and addressed it that night. I know. Crazy. What’s even crazier was how delicious these tasted. My kids ate more than I did, so I was thankful for having decided to bake the entire bag after deciding to buy Veggie Fries! I felt good about letting them eat away because they were eating vegetables. They were crispy, had a texture like regular frozen potato fries and tasted amazingly great.
The only note of caution I would give is to only bake as much as you will eat after you buy Veggie Fries. Like regular frozen fries, then do get dried out and taste less appetizing if you bake them and refrigerate them. Who actually eats refrigerated fries though? Right?
Mail to Buy Veggie Fries
A few weeks later I received happy mail. A handwritten note with SIX coupons! Farmwise Brand, who makes Veggie Fries, really knows how to make a gluten-free girl feel well taken care of. I figured this was the rebate since one of the coupons was for a free product – it’s pretty much the same thing. I was confused when I received an envelope from Farmwise a few weeks later with a rebate check…and another coupon. Wow, so they not only reimbursed me to try a product when I decided to buy Veggie Fries, but they sent a handwritten note, extra coupons AND a rebate check. Oh, and their products rock.
I’m really impressed with how this company treats their customers and with the attention they give their products.
